Barbados Bliss

Barbados Bliss: From Catamaran Thrills to Currency Wisdom in 3 Days!

I love the Caribbean! But with only one previous trip to St. Maarten under my belt, its breathtaking beauty left me yearning for more. So, I had to go back, this journey was to  Barbados, and I was eager to uncover its magic. Spoiler alert: it did not disappoint!

To start, I quickly fell in love with its picture-perfect weather. It enveloped me, I could never get tired of the balmy 35-degree weather. As I explored along the coastline, soft sand, crystal clear waters, and the all-around beauty were quickly making it one of my favourites.

Beyond the beach, the people in Barbados had genuine kindness, and boundless joy and were full of soul. I will never forget the warmth of their smiles, and the sincerity of their gestures—truly, they are a delight to behold!

The resort we stayed in felt like a hidden gem that stole my heart from the moment I walked in. It had everything the adventurous vacationer would need from its intimate havens to the fun evening live music scene, even spots that catered to families, couples, and seniors. Truly, it had it all.

And this wouldn’t be me if I didn’t talk about the culinary delights that awaited at the resort's restaurant! Each meal was a masterpiece with diverse flavours. As a long-time vegetarian, I found myself spoiled for choice, thanks to the thoughtful accommodation for us. My favourites were the pasta and watermelon salad which I still crave as I type this.

Venturing beyond the resort's confines, we stumbled upon a little oasis: Limegrove Mall. Filled with picture-perfect boutiques, and an enchanting outdoor restaurant. This charming outdoor mall is an experience not to be missed!

We had so many options when exploring the island. We could have easily hopped on a tour bus and been shown around the city by a tour guide, but instead, we opted for a more grassroots approach since we only did a 3-day inclusive trip. Though we already knew that on our next trip, we would be doing 7 days so we could get more time on the beach and general time to explore.

During this period we also had our very first catamaran ride, which was mostly fun but the water was a little choppy. If you plan to ride the catamaran I want to throw a word of caution if you’re prone to sea sickness or queasiness. I imagine that wouldn’t end well. Yet when all was said and done, it truly was a one-of-a-kind experience and I couldn’t recommend it more.

Last, for those pondering the currency conundrum, like I was, it’s pretty simple. While it’s convenient to want to bring the US dollars, keep in mind that some local establishments, including quaint shops and taxi drivers, may prefer the Barbadian dollar. However, we found that most places were more than happy to take the US Dollar. If all else, most bank machines dispense both currencies, making your trip to Barbados as seamless and simple as possible. We can’t wait to go back.
